DIYAWANNA NILAME

BY ZAMEER CAREEM

As the supreme exponent of cultural splendour
his presence portraythe Lankan allure
as a symbol of pristine pride and honour
he ensures the continuity of Sinhala lore

from luxuriant jewels of gold and sapphires
to sumptuous attires of spangles of grandeur
it graces his image as an entrusted noble
who secures the tooth relic,of our sacred temple

His steadfast attitude and ceremonial presence
as a virtuous display of regal effulgence
amid the grand tuskers & imposing pageants
he adorns the ''perehera'',as the Nilame of reliance.
