Occupy Poetry

How Easily

BY Robert McGee Jr.

Meaningful in death,
With orbs of glass transfixed
At the edge of the gentle surf:
Fact he is dead matters
Only when compelled to see
Past the mere object of an image,
Symbol of that insufferable world
Routinely visited upon the innocent --
How easily cruelty collects in the heart
Through orbs of glass, clear as Vermeer.
