My Mind Wanders

BY Elijah H. Muied

“MY MIND WANDERS”
ROMANTIC ILLUSIONS, WITH MISCELLANEOUS CONCLUSIONS
MY DREAMS GIVE WAY TO SUCH THOUGHTS OF YOU, IN AN EROTIC DELUSION
WAKING MOMENTS SPENT FEVERISHLY AWAITING THE RETURN OF NIGHT AND THE CHANCE THAT I MIGHT, ONCE AGAIN TRAVEL IN THE COMPANY OF YOUR CHARMS, FEEL THE WARMTH OF YOUR ARMS
EVEN IF ONLY UNTIL THE SOUND OF A TALE-TALE BUZZER AWAKENING ME TO THE REALITY OF YOUR ABSENCE
AND THE PAST TENSE OF WHAT WE ONCE HAD
AT THE SAME TIME MAD, WHILE ULTIMATELY SAD AS I CONTEMPLATE MY LONELY STATE
REALIZING TOO LATE HOW LOST I AM WITHOUT YOU
MY FEELINGS OF ABANDONMENT THE ONLY THING COMPLETELY TRUE
WHAT TO DO, TO QUELL THESE MEANDERINGS OF MY SUBCONSCIOUS
INTERFERING WITH THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF MY CONSCIOUS
MAYBE I’LL FIND ANOTHER TO SWAY MY WANDERINGS
DISTRACT MY ATTENTION
GIVE RESPITE TO THE HEARTBREAKING MEMORIES THAT MY MIND CONSTANTLY MENTIONS
IT COULD WORK FOR AWHILE, BUT ONLY JUST AWHILE
BECAUSE EVENTUALLY MY THOUGHTS RETURN TO
YOU

“MY MIND WANDERS”
WATCH ME CLOSELY AND YOU CAN CATCH FLEETING GLIMPES OF WISTFUL SMILES
REMEMBERING A TIME BACK WHEN, WE WHERE YOUNG AND WILD
MAKING LOVE OUT UNDER THE NIGHT SKY
NO CONCERNS FOR THE CHANCE OF CATCHING A VOYEURS EYE
CAREFREE IN OUR IGNORANCE, EXPLORING NEW FOUND SENSES
RUMMAGING THROUGH TIME BLISSFULLY UNAWARE OF THE FUTURE EXPENSES
TIME DOES THINGS TO THOSE UNPREPARED FOR THE FUTURE
AND I CONFESS I WAS CLEARLY
NOT READY
RESPONSIBILITY AN ENIGMA, A ROTATING OBJECT THAT I WAS UNABLE TO HOLD STEADY
WITH NO TANGIBLE SUPPORT, THE WALLS OF A FANTASY LOVE BEGAN TO CRUMBLE AND IMPLODE WITHIN OUR SOULS
SELFISHLY CONDEMNING EACH OTHER FOR OUR EQUAL LOSS OF CONTROL
UNTIL FINALLY IT BECAME PAINFULLY CLEAR
WE COULD NOT PROGRESS AS LONG AS WE KEPT EACH OTHER NEAR
WE FINALLY ANGRILY, SADLY, INEVITABLY PARTED WAYS
AND TO THIS DAY ON CERTAIN LONELY DAYS
I WILL SIT, REMINISCE AND PONDER
PERIODICALLY
