Occupy Poetry

New York in Summer

BY Ivo Skoric

Like many pebbles of different colors
rivers of people
flow down to the subway tunnels
if they are any closer
they would be sitting in each others lap
soaked in sweat as they are
and they don’t even speak the same language
yet sufficiently high
with loud music blasting directly in their ears
some are so distant
so far away from the rest
like little sunny islands in Pacific
and they are from Queens
